Things are sizzling in the Yakima Valley again. A string of high 90 degree days pushed the grapes into veraison and toward ripening. We expect to harvest reds here on Red Mountain around mid-September. 2012 has been a milestone filled year for Hightower Cellars – 15 years of winemaking in Washington State and 10 years since our move to Red Mountain.
As we reflect on our journey we realize it has been an evolution. We increased production 11 fold – from a whopping 200 cases to 2300 cases, moved to Red Mountain, became farmers by planting our estate vineyard, and remodeled and expanded a rustic metal barn into an elegant tasting room and winery. Equally important to us is the community of growers and winemakers that we have seen develop and prosper in Washington, in the Yakima Valley, and Red Mountain. These past 15 years in the Washington wine industry have been fruitful, (pun intended), challenging, and fun.
